Passenger went over board at christmas

Wed Dec 27 19:16:11 CET 2023 Timsen

A 41-year-old passenger of the 'Vision of the Seas' was missing after going overboard on Dec 24, 2023. The Coast Guard received a call at 7:17 p.m. about the passenger, who fell from the ship about 127 miles east of Charleston, South Carolina. The vessel and crew immediately reported the incident to local authorities and initiated an SAR operation. The Coast Guard deployed a C-130 Hercules aircraft from Elizabeth City, North Carolina, and another C-130 crew responded from Clearwater, Florida, to relieve the first.

Repatriation to Trinidad and quarantine

Wed May 27 12:36:50 CEST 2020 Timsen

A group of 53 Disney Cruise Line staff returned to Trinidad and Tobago aboard the 'Disney Fantasy' after being trapped at sea due to restrictions by Covid-19. The crew disembarked in two lifeboats and from the cruise ship complex they were transferred to a campus of the University of the West Indies (UWI), where they will carry out their 14-day quarantine period. Because Trinidad and Tobago's borders remained closed to prevent the spread of the coronavirus and flatten the curve, the crew experienced weeks of uncertainty, during which numerous emails were sent to the Minister of Homeland Security, Stuart Young, requesting the landing. Past week, Young has agreed to allow Trinidadian crew members caught on cruise ships to return home. On May 23, six crew members from the 'Caribbean Princess' cruise ship were allowed to re-enter the country and immediately brought to the UWI campus to fulfill the quarantine period, and there were still more than 300 Trinidadians on another cruise ship, the 'Vision of the Seas'. Regarding this ship Minister Young explained that he was in contact with the owners of the ship to ask them to anchor in Trinidad and Tobago and quarantine the nationals on board the ship for 14 days. In case the owners of the ship accept the proposal of the minister, the Trinidadian crew will be evaluated and monitored on board the ship and when their quarantine ends, they will be allowed to disembark to return directly to their homes.

Trinidad nationals disembarked in St. Lucia

Tue May 26 13:29:52 CEST 2020 Timsen

The 'Vision of the Seas', holding 345 Trinidad nationals on board, docked in St Lucia in the morning of May 25, 2020. 72 St Lucians disembarked and entered five buses, where they were taken home to quarantine. They had their temperatures taken before. Apart from the 345 TT nationals on the 'Vision of the Seas', there were about 20 others on three other Royal Caribbean vessels, including the 'Serenade of the Seas' and the 'Majesty of the Seas'. They will all board the 'Vision of the Seas', sail to Port of Spain and dock, once cleared by the Ministry of National Security. Apart from the captain and a few others, the TT nationals will be the last to return home. It remained unclear when the Ministry of National Security will begin allowing the cruise workers in groups and in what order. The Office of the Prime Minister announced on May 22 it had, Granted approval for the arrival of over 1,000 Jamaican ship workers aboard the 'Adventure of the Seas'. Ship workers who test positive will be placed in state quarantine for 14 days and those who test negative will be allowed to home quarantine for the same period. Holness said the over 1,000 ship workers will be allowed off the ship in groups of 200, directed by the health authorities. The six nationals from the 'Caribbean Princess', along with 52 more, who returned to Port of Spain on Disney Cruise Line life boats in the morning of May 25, were taken by police escort to the facility in South, where they were examined and will undergo yet another two-week quarantine. The vessel left St Lucia on May 25 and was scheduled to stop in St Vincent on May 29.
