Tanker will not be refloated
The 'Victoria', which had run aground off the coast of Sakhalin on Nov 10 will not be refloated due to its tight landing on rocks after several attempts have been made. Now the fate of the vessel will be decided by its owner, according to the head of Civil Defense and Emergency Department of the Nevelsk City District Administration. The fuel on board has all been pumped up. The Sakhalin branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution clarified that all work on the part of the rescuers has been completed. According to the authorities, the crew members left Sakhalin and went to their place of residence.
Russian tanker ran aground at Sakhalin
The 'Victoria' ran aground with 10 crew members on board about two cables off southwest Sakhalin coast near Cape Lopatino in the morning of Nov 10, 2023, while sailing along the coast in southern direction. The tanker had 700 tons of fuel on board, no leak was reported. A salvage tug left the base port Korsakov on Nov 10 at 1 a.m. The main engine of the vessel was damaged. In addition, the vessel was without power, and the steering gear was damaged. The emergency diesel generator was started. For preventative purposes, the crew placed booms - 100 metres on both sides of the vessel. Currently, there were 760 tons of fuel on board, 700 tons as cargo for Sakhalin and 60 tons for the needs of the tanker itself. There was a storm in the region with waves reaching 4.5 metres height.
