Mechanical damage off Karystos
The 'Veroniki IV', with 14 people on board, suffered a mechanical damage en route from Elevsis to Thessaloniki in the Kafirea Strait in pos. 37 57 55 N, 024 33 47 E, in the evening of Jan 22, 2034. The Karystos Port Authority's local emergency plan and local pollution response plan were immediately activated. After repairs, the ship continued its voyage unassisted towards a safe anchorage in Karystos Bay, where it was safely moored. The 'Veroniki IV' was banned from sailing until the mechanical damage has been repaired and class certificates of maintenance and seaworthiness were issued by the monitoring classification society. On Jan 23 at around 4 p.m. the ship was underway again with an ETA as of Jan 24.
