Engineer fell over board, presumed dead
On Apr 3, 2014, the electric engineer of the "Valentin Pikul" presumably fell overboard, while the vessel was off Latvian coast en route from St. Petersburg to Klaipeda, Lithuania, in the responsibility zone of Latvia and Estonia MRCC, Odin.tc reports. The vessel turned back and started searching, Estonia and Latvia dispatched rescue boats and helicopters. In the evening of Apr 3 after the daylight was gone, the search was suspended. There was no hope for survival, considering the water temperature.
