Tug rescued 14 out of 33 people from sinking catamaran
The rapid intervention of tugs, lifeboats and pilots avoided a tragedy in Cartagena on Nov 14, 2021, when theSpanish cataramaran 'Olé Cuarto' (MMSI:224963840) broke apart and sank one mile off the port. On board were 17 men and 16 women, including six minors. 14 out of the 33 people were rescued in the first instance by the 'V.B. Glacial', then a boat of Salvamento Marítimo and a helicopter arrived. The castaways were transferred to the cruise terminal on the pier, where members of the Civil Protection of the Cartagena City Council assisted them. At least 14 people had to be transferred to the Santa Lucía hospital for hypothermia, dizziness and minor bruises. A Red Cross boat and a helicopter were mobilized to check if there were more people in or around the ship, without anyone being found. The 'Catamaran Olé' was allowed to carry 96 people and undertook three-hour sailings. The ship is more than 23 meters long and 10,50 meters wide. The upper deck measures over 200 square meters.
