Damaged LCS arrived in home port

Wed Nov 09 11:30:12 CET 2016 Timsen

The damaged USS "Montgomery" arrived at its home port of San Diego on Nov 8, 2016. In service less the two months, the vessel struck a concrete structure last weekend as it passed through the Panama Canal and suffered an 18-inch-long gash about 8-10 feet above the water line. The "Montgomery" had conducted crew training and systems checks in voyages to Florida, Cuba and other locations before transiting the canal. During that time, the trimaran suffered a seawater leak in its hydraulic cooling system, a breakdown in a gas turbine engine and was hit hard by a tug when leaving Mayport, Florida, to get out of the path of Hurricane Matthew. Littoral Combat Ship USS Montgomery Damaged Transiting Panama Canal

Wed Nov 02 12:16:36 CET 2016 arnekiel

The Littoral Combat Ship USS Montgomery (LCS-8) suffered damage during a transit through the Panama Canal on its way to its new homeport in San Diego, Calif., USNI News has learned. Montgomery, was crossing from the Atlantic to the Pacific when the LCS collided with one of the walls of the lock and suffered damage to the hull on Oct. 29, Cmdr. Ryan Perry with U.S. 3rd Fleet told USNI News on Monday. “Under control of the local Panama Canal Pilot, the ship impacted the center lock wall and sustained an 18-inch-long crack between her port quarter and transom plates,” Perry said. “The crack is located 8-10 feet above the waterline and poses no water intrusion or stability risk.” The ship is now on the Pacific side of the canal heading to its new homeport. https://news.usni.org/2016/10/31/uss-montgomery-damaged-transiting
