Disabled fishing vessel threatened to drift into Northsea platform
On Apr 1, 2016, around 7.30 p.m. the Dutch Coast Guard was notified of gearbox trouble of the "Marja Netty -UK-19". She had problems with the propeller and drifte towards the Helder A platform. The KNRM rescue stations Daman and Egmond aan Zee were alerted. 10 minutes later the lifeboat "Adriaan Hendrik" was en route towards the Helder A platform about 40 kilometers west of Den Helder. From Den Helder, the lifeboat "Joke Dijkstra" was approaching. Also the emergency tug "Guardian", a Coast Guard aircraft and a rescue helicopter from Noordzee Helikopters Vlaanderen (NHV) were en route to the fisherman. Once the helicopter was on the spot it began evacuating 17 people from the platform. The "Adriaan Hendrik" managed to take the "Marja Netty" in tow 200 meters off the platform and kept the vessel clear from it. The f/v "Jan van Den Berg UK-243" took over at midnight and pulled the casualty to Den Helder. At 2 a.m. the "Adriaan Hendrik" was ready for the next deployment. At 9.15 a.m. the "Marja Netty" was berthed in Den Helder.
