Two Chinese crew die off Haldia port
Two Chinese crew members have died after allegedly inhaling poisonous gas on a cargo ship carrying non-coking coal from Indonesia about 130km from Haldia port. Another two members of staff fell sick during the incident on 21 April. The two crew members that died have been identified as An Bai Bong, 46, and Bing Sing Bao, 35. Those who fell ill are 35-year-old Sun Liuhua and Yang Zhigang, 36. The crew members were evacuated by the Haldia Coast Guard and admitted to hospital on Monday, officers at Durgachok police station said. The Panama-flagged vessel, TUO FU 3, was carrying around 60,000 tonnes of non-coking coal that was meant to be unloaded on to barges at the sand heads about 130km from Haldia port and transported through the River Hooghly to the state-owned National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) power plant in Farakka, Murshidabad.
