Tanker diverted to Matanzas instead of Cartagena
The Transsib Bridge ship, which had left Nakhodka loaded with 300,000 barrels of Russian diesel, arrives at the port of Matanzas on Sep 7. The tanker, after passing through the Panama Canal, had docked in Cartagena on Sep 2, which was scheduled, but it did not unload – although it was speculated with a possible transfer of part of the cargo – and updated its schedule, declaring that it was heading to Matanzas. The tanker has been managed since April by Sun Ship Management, a subsidiary of the Russian company Sovcomflot, which has been sanctioned by the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada and has lost Western companies' insurance for its fleet.
Tanker with Russian oil diverted to Cuba
The 'Transsib Bridge', carrying 300,000 barrels of diesel from Nakhodka, diverted to Cuba on Sep 2, 2022, after mooring at Cartagena anchorage. The tanker had showed Cartagena as its intended destination after passing the Panama Canal. It later changed course and revised its destination to the Matanzas terminal. Western sanctions on Russia over its invasion of Ukraine has restricted the market for its oil. But Cuba has ramped up imports from Venezuela, Russia and other countries to cover a fuel deficit aggravated by a deadly fire at its main oil terminal last month.

The casualty was on board the Liberian registered oil tanker MT “Transsib Bridge,” which was navigating to Malta from Las Palmas.
