Underwater repairs completed

Fri May 26 11:05:37 CEST 2023 Timsen

After the grounding of the 'True Conrad' at the exit of the access channel to the Companhia Siderurgica Terminal Nacional (CSN) in Sepetiba Bay (RJ) on May 10, damage was found to the ballast tank and the ship safely anchored close to buoys 1 and 2 for the necessary repairs. DelItacuruca sent a Naval Inspection team to the site to verify what happened and activated the Inspection and Inspection Group (GVI) of the Port Authority of Rio de Janeiro (CPRJ), military personnel from DelItacuruca itself, to inspect the structural part and the ship's documentation. At the time, no signs of water pollution were identified, such as oil leakage or spillage in the area from the vessel. The ship owner and the vessel's Master have been notified to provide clarifications on the incident in accordance with item II, Art. 26 of Decree 2596/1998 (RLESTA) and to adopt the appropriate security procedures. As of May 16, and the underwater repair of the affected ballast tanks has been completed. The internal inspection of the tanks was scheduled on May 18. Once the investigation is completed and the legal formalities have been fulfilled, the findings will be forwarded to the Maritime Court, which will handle the appropriate distribution and assessment and then pass it on to the Navy's Special Prosecutor's Office. The ship remained anchored off Itaquai as of May 26.
