Ship in distress in cyclone
The 'Triton Liberty' got in distress in the Gulf of Khambhat, north of Mumbai, on May 17, 2021, at 10.20 p.m. in the cyclone Tauktae. The ship which had been anchored off Mumbai reported flooding in the adverse weather in vicinity 20 19 13N, 71 44 24E. Vessels in the vicinity were requested to keep an active lookout, assist if possible and report to the MRCC Mumbai.
Offshore ship refloated
The tug "Kiltan" (IMO: 9382621) of the Lakshadweep Administration was employed to refloat the "Triton Liberty" and successfully pulled the grounded vessel off on Apr 13. No damage to the hull of the vessel has been reported. The "Triton Liberty" subsequently berthed at Kavaratti Islands. It sailed from Kochi on May 29.
Grounding near Bitra Island
The "Triton Liberty" ran aground near Bitra Island in the Lakshadweep Islands, on April 11, 2019. The vessel has discharged 25 KL of fresh water in an attempt to lighten it for refloating, but the work was in vain. A tug was to be sent to Bitra island to assist the grounded vessel. It had 17 crew members on board, including seven Indian Naval staff.
