TRADELINK 8315920

Wed Jul 07 10:05:41 CEST 2010 Timsen

In the afternoon of July 6, 2010, the "African Zebra", was in collision with the Danish f/v "Nina Nitu" east of Grenå, Djursland. The weather was fine on scene, however, the Danish f/v started to founder rapidly. One of the two crew members was hurt in the accident. They were unable to grasp their live vests which were in the fish hold of the "Nina Titu" which was completely destroyed. A Swedish rescue helicopter being on a training flight north of Læsø arrived shortly after a Danish helicopter. The Swedish unit managed to hoist both fishers before their ship capsized and sank 40 miles off the coast. They were transported to Aarhus and further into a hospital by the Falck Rescue service. Also a Danish and a Swedish rescue boat, the Dutch "Rotterdam" as well as a Swedish naval ship were on scene. The wrecksite was marked with a buoy. The "African Zebra" anchored in the Kalundborg Fjord after the collision for surveys and investigations.
