Cargo ship listing and flooding in Japan Sea
The "Tong Yang Hai" issued a distress signal in the early morning of Mar 11, 2015, reporting flooding and developing list about 150 miles northwest of the Saruyama Misaki Light in the Ishikawa Prefecture Wajima. The vessel was en route from Nakhodka to Pohang, being loaded with a cargo of coal. The crew of 14 included eight Chinese and six Vietnamese nationalities. The Japan Coast Guard sent patrol boats and a helicopter to the vessel which was disabled and adrift probably with cargo shift. The rescue operation was carried out in rough waters, accompanied by snow and strong gusts of winds. The ship was drifting without power and listing before it finally sank.
