Crane ship sold to HEBO after salvage

Following a successful salvage operation, the 'Tog Mor' has been sold to HEBO Maritime Service for repurpose. Purchased by Allseas in 1997, the vessel was converted for pipelay and construction activities between 2001 and 2002. Debuting for Allseas on the Interconnector Scotland-Ireland pipeline job, she went on to safely install more than 400 kilometres of nearshore pipeline worldwide. The robust design, impressive tension holding capacity and lifting power made her indispensable on dozens of projects requiring stability and strength in challenging conditions. Built in 1975 as a heavy-duty floating derrick, the 'Tog Mor' was designed with Stülcken masts for the assembly of large sections and modules for offshore production platforms. Her legacy began with the construction of the North Sea’s Maureen platform, and later, she lifted the historic warship 'Mary Rose' from the Solent seabed. HEBO plans to convert the vessel into an offshore construction barge, which will be named 'HEBO-CB 1', aimed at supporting projects in the civil and energy markets. The vessel will feature a 300-tonne crane, an 8-point mooring system, accommodation for 144 personnel, and 1,300 sq m of deck space. HEBO will start the conversion process shortly.

Grounding has positive impact on local economy

The grounding of the “Tog Mor”on the beach of Villa Allende, in the municipality of Coatzacoalcos had a positive impact on the local economy, generating temporary employment for about 20 people. The workers originally from Villa Allende have been hired to carry out cleaning work and remove the waste that the ship has left on the beach. The group helped with the collection of foam, bottles and other materials that the ship has released. it was expected to take three to five days. To avoid possible looting, the “Tog Mor” is monitored 24 hours a day by personnel from the Navy and private security, who maintain checkpoints and carry out patrols both on land and at sea. It has not yet been reported when the work to refloat the ship will begin. 135 workers taken off grounded barge wihtin 24 hours

Helicopters from the Transportes Aéreos Pegaso, hired by TC Energy, had to rescue the 135 crew members from the 'Tog Mor' in Coatzacoalcos near Villa Allende on Sep8, where the pipe laiyer had drifted aground due to intense winds and high waves caused by the interaction of a cold front and tropical storm in the southern Veracruz region. it took approximately 24 hours to pull all non essential personnel off the barge safely. The responders also rigged a liferaft connected to the ship and the shore by lines, and then pulled some personnel through the surf zone in small groups. The flat-bottomed barge, was in the process of laying pipes for the Puerta al Sureste gas pipeline, which will transport gas from Texas, USA, through Veracruz to Tabasco. As the storm intensified, the vessel broke lose from its three tugs and got stuck just 1,200 meters from the shore while attempting to reach the Coatzacoalcos port for safety. he harsh conditions prevented success. Finally, helicopters. Seven workers remained on board to ensure the vessel’s security and oversee future operations to refloat it. The salvage work on the 'Tog Mor' was to resume on Sep 10, when the port of Coatzacoalcos reopened to large-scale navigation. Specialized personnel were hired by the company TC Energy to carry out the towing maneuvers. On Sep 9, maritime personnel from Houston Texas carried out an investigation of the situation of the barge and were preparing the salvage plan.
