Bulk carrier refloated

Wed Dec 18 12:59:05 CET 2024 Timsen

The 'Tim S. Dool' was safely refloated on the morning of Dec 17 at around 8 a.m., by the tugs 'Ocean Tundra' and 'Ocean Serge Genois', after being stuck on Crysler Shoal southwest of the Eisenhower Lock in the St. Lawrence River for more than three weeks, and brought to the Wilson Hill anchorage, N.Y. where it will undergo a full inspection before continuing on its journey. Crews had been lightering the load of wheat grain before onto four barges. The ship had been stuck outside the navigation channel and did not cause disruptions to shipping traffic or environmental pollution. As of Dec 18, it remained anchored in pos. 44° 56' N 075° 03' W. Lightering of cargo has commenced

Fri Dec 13 11:50:42 CET 2024 Timsen

Grounded for over three weeks, a planned salvage operation for the 'Tim S. Dool' began on Dec 12 at 4 a.m., according to the St. Lawrence Seaway Corporation. The operation to remove cargo from the vessel could take several days. While the vessel is located outside of the navigation channel, there are speed restrictions in place for other cargo ships in the vicinity. The ship has remained stuck at the Crysler shoal in Lake St. Lawrence near Upper Canada Village since Nov 23. The plan, which was approved by Transport Canada, will see additional ships at the site with the load of grain being lightered to reduce the ship's draught. There will also be several hours of closure for a portion of the Seaway once sufficient wheat has been removed from the vessel and refloating operations can begin. The U.S. Coast Guard, Canadian Coast Guard, Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation and St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation were working closely to minimize disruption to the maritime transportation system and ensure direct communication with commercial vessels that may be impacted. The cause of the ship getting stuck remains unknown. As of Dec 13, the dredger 'Borromee Verrault' (MMSI: 316023194) and the tug 'Ocean Aqua' (IMO: 9280469 ) were alongside the 'Tim S. Dool'. Salvage plan accepted

Mon Dec 09 13:34:13 CET 2024 Timsen

The St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation said in a statement on the afternoon oof Nov 7, that officials have reviewed and accepted a salvage plan for the 'Tim S. Dool'. Lightering operations were expected to begin by the end of the week of Dec 9, after all necessary resources have arrived on site. The corporation did not say provide a timeline for the operation. Last week, three tugs had arrived from Quebec City after a near two-day journey to assist with refloating theship, but efforts to move it fell short. Despite the setback, officials have reported no injuries or environmental damage.
