Havila Shipping lays up AHTS pair, cuts staff
Norwegian offshore specialist Havila Shipping has said today that it has decided to lay up AHTS vessels Havila Mars and Havila Neptune. As a consequence of the lay ups Havila said it will give notice to some employees within the company as well as reduce crew hiring. The company said that the decision is due to market conditions, which it does not expect to improve in the short to medium term citing the main challenge as the supply side of the equation. Havila has a fleet of 22 vessels, primarily made up of AHTS and PSVs.
Havila Mars assisted in attempted boat salvage
The "Havila Mars" on June 6, 2011, assisted the lifeboat "Simrad Buholmen" after a 36-ft-Viknes 1030 speedboat had run on rocks underway from Stadhavet to Møre in Romsdal west of Kråkeneset in Vågsøy. The NSSR-boat deployed two men and a portable bilge pump from the Vågsøy fire brigade in order to refloat the casualty. The "Havila Mars " which was sailing north in the Ulve sound was contacted ans requested to assist in the salvage of the boat. The "Havila Mars " was positioned as close to shore as possible and made clear cranes and winches to lift the damaged boat on board. When the speedboat was pulled off, it partially sank. An attempt to it winch aboard the "Havila Mars" had to be aborted due to a lack of attachment points on the boat. The lifeboat "Halfdan Grieg" then took over the tow and pulled the wreck to Måløy.
