The passengers of the "Tarrafal" were forced to spend 24 hours on the island of São Nicolau due to mechanical problems with the ship which started on July 22, 2010. The ship was docked in São Nicolau for 24 hours because of a mechanical problem with one of its valves. The ship was only able to continue its voyage at 10:00 p.m. on July 27 because the local municipal chamber lent the owners STM a compressor. Actually Tarrafal is traveling at a speed of between eight and nine knots. STM has now decided to purchase a repair boat to respond to emergency situations that may occur away from the island of São Vicente.
