Tug allided with pier in Newcastle

Wed Mar 13 09:23:23 CET 2013 Timsen

On Mar 11, 12013, the "Svitzer Myall" allided with a pier in Newcastle, Australia, around 3 p.m. The vessel began taking on water and had to be assisted by several other tugs and harbor work staff to come into port. A technical failure was blamed for the accident. The tug lost steering control before colliding with the Stockton break wall. The mechanical failure occurred while the tug was steaming back to berth. Shortly after passing through the Newcastle breakwaters, the vessel turned to starboard and made contact with the rocks beneath the waterline on the Stockton side. None of the crew were injured in the allision. Report with photo: http://www.lloydslistdcn.com.au/archive/2013/march/18/tug-lost-steering-before-hitting-break-wall-says-svitzer
