Disabled shrimper towed away from Russian border
The "Svebåen" got in distress in the night of Oct 24, 2014, after an engine breakdown in the Varanger Fjord between Kirkenes and Vardo. Severe weather with gusts up to hurricane strength reduced the speed of the lifeboat "Reidar von Koss" wich had been called to assist while the "Svebåen" was drifting towards the Russian border. The crew of three feared to be taken in tow to Murmansk then. Fortunately the lifeboat reached the shrimper in time, six hours after the initial emergency call. The casualty was towed to Berlevaag within nine hours.
