Sun Essex docked in La Coruna with split tank barge

Mon Dec 31 16:07:30 CET 2012 Timsen

The "Sun Essex" carrying two barges to Lagos had to seek shelter on Dec 17, 2012, in bad weather in La Coruna, after one of the tank barges it was pulling, the "Frisius" (EU-No: 6000401), broke in two. Due to the weather forecast the "Sun Essex" had already planned to dock in the city a few days before, but the situation was precipitated on Dec 17. The salvage tug "Salvamar Mirfak" was sent to check the condition of the vessels. The tugs "Sertosa 28" and "Sertosa 32"helped to dock the "Sapphire" and the remaining half of the "Frisius". Also the "Sar Gavia" oversaw the process. On Dec 27 the "Sun Essex" continued its voyage with an ETA of Jan 10, 2013. SUN ESSEX 7529067

Mon Nov 15 21:47:30 CET 2010 Timsen

After on Nov 12 the Dutch owned tug "Compass" lost its tow, the "Stema Barge II"; 12641 gt, 28 nautical miles west of Hvide Sande while on a voyage from England to Larvik and the tug was unable to reconnect with the barge which was drifting towards the Danish coast, the "Lucas" jointly with the "Compass" took it in tow after a team of three salvors had managed to establish a new towline, when the barge was only some five nautical miles from the shore. The "Stema Barge II" was then towed slowly to its destination in Norway with the "Lucas" as assisting tug in case of further emergency.
