Summit LNG under repair in Chittagong

Mon Jul 15 10:03:13 CEST 2024 Timsen

The 'Summit LNG' arrived in Chittagong on July 11. It had departed Singapire on July 6. The unit could resume operations in Mid-July. Bangladesh was importing six cargoes throu its long-term deals in July, as well as two additional cargoes from the spot market. One will arrive in Bangladesh in mid July, the other on July 24-25. The 'Summit LNG' as damaged by a steel strutcture in Cycloine Remal in May, and the operatoir declared force majeur on LNG deliveries.

Repairs to last until mid-July

Thu Jul 04 12:55:38 CEST 2024 Timsen

The 'Summit LNG' should resume operations by July 14-15 after it was damaged during the cyclone Remal, which brought gales and heavy rain to the coastlines of India and Bangladesh, a Petrobangla official said on July 4. Summit LNG had earlier said the floating liquefied natural gas import terminal would proceed to Singapore or the Middle East for repairs. The ship is berthed at the Sembcorp Marine Boulvevard in Singapore. The State-owned Petrobangla is tasked with importing LNG for Bangladesh, which relies on the fuel to meet power demand for its population of more than 170 million people. Petrobangla cancelled four spot cargoes scheduled for delivery from late May to around mid-June following the damage to the unit, which is one of Bangladesh's two floating LNG import terminals.

Cyclone damage to be repaired at shipyard

Tue Jun 18 09:37:07 CEST 2024 Timsen

The US-based Excelerate Energy expectes the 'Summit LNG', which serves Bangladesh’s second LNG terminal off Moheshkhali Island in the Bay of Bengal, to complete repairs and resume operations by the end of July. Due to the extent of the damage sustained by the FSRU, it was deemed necessary for the vessel to sail under her own power to a shipyard facility for repairs. On June 12, 2024, the vessel safely disconnected from the terminal en route to a shipyard facility in Southeast Asia in order to return to service in Bangladesh by the end of July when the damage suffered on May 27 during cyclone Remal has been fixed. A floating object had allided with the vessel’s starboard side several times. The impact sheared the outer hull, approximately one meter below the waterline, leading to water ingress into the ballast tanks.
