Fog interrupted salvage work
The Danube ship traffic remains obstructed by the "Straubing" as the salvage work on Nov 14 had to be interrupted due to dense fog. Salvage work was to be resumed in the morning of Nov 15, the river remained closed in the meantime. In the run of the day, the casualties were removed from the grounding site and ship traffic resumed. German report with video: http://www.trp1.de/nachrichten/Nach_Schiffshavarie-8108.html
Straubing on the shore
On Nov 14, 2011, at 1.30 p.m. the "Straubing", 1925 ts (EU-No.: 04800170), and the connected barge "SL 18005", 1984 ts (ENI-No.: 08557055 ), ran aground on the Danube near Deggendorf when trying to turn around after having lifted the anchor to sail downstream. The bargetrain carried 700 tons iron ore. The ships got stuck on the left shore. The ships were disconnected and refloated in the run of the day. But stones had blocked the bow thruster of the "Straubing" probably during the grounding, making it unable to manoever for some time, so the Danube had to be closed for shipping around 3 p.m. Another ship was to tow the casualty downstream.
