On Feb 15, 2016, at 2.15 p.m. the KNRM rescue station Hoek van Holland was alerted due to a fire on a gas carrying truck on the car deck of the "Stena Transporter" which moored at the quay in Europort in Rotterdam. The fire brigades from Hoek van Holland, s-Gravenzande, Naaldwijk, Rotterdam-Bosland and Rotterdam-Colorado Way attended the fire. The fire fighters from Hoek van Holland scaled the fire up to mediuum shortly after arriving on site which meant that two fire engines from Hoek van Holland and s-Gravenzande were deployed for the incident. They had the fire quickly under control. The KNRM lifeboat "Jeanine Parquin" came from the Berg Port and went on standby on the waterway in case someone fell into the water. An investigation showed that sparks had ignited the fire when a plumbing company was carrying out grinding work on the deck using acetylene gas. Most fire units could soon return. The ferry could leave the port of Rotterdam around 10 p.m and berthed in Immingham on Feb 16 around 8 a.m. Dutch reports with photos: https://www.knrm.nl/waar-wij-zijn/reddingstations/hoek-van-holland/reddingrapporten/brand-aan-boord-stena-transporter-64a5b5aeae http://www.westlanders.nu/nieuws/brand-in-vrachtwagen-met-gasflessen-16310/

A £200-million investment in a vital trade route linking northern Britain to continental Europe – via Killingholme – has been toasted. A special welcome event was hosted at Humber Sea Terminal for the arrival of new vessel Stena Transporter. She will serve the daily freight route to Hook of Holland, and will be joined by a sister vessel Stena Transit in November. Larger than her predecessors – capable of carrying 30 per cent more cargo – she affords drivers every modern luxury for the North Sea crossing, and is cleaner and more efficient than ever before. Pim de Lange, Stena Line's area director for the North Sea, said: "Stena Line has made a huge investment in a very competitive North Sea market.
