A fire broke out in the engine room of the 'Stena Superfast VII' during the crossing from Cairnryan to Belfast on July 12, 2021 around 9 p.m. Lifeboats from Bangor, Donaghadee and Larne were tasked to deal with the incident. Coastguard rescue teams from Bangor, Portaferry, Larne and Portmuck also attended. Nuclear submarine had near miss with ferry

Tue Jan 22 13:12:15 CET 2019 Timsen

A nuclear submarine had a near miss with the "Superfast VII" headed from Belfast to Scotland in the Irish Sea on Nov 6, 2018, but the decision to start an investigation was declared only on Jan 21, 2019. An investigation has been launched into the previously unreported incident. The submarine was submerged at the depth needed to extend its periscope above the surface of the water. The Royal Navy would not confirm which of its 10 submarines was involved. They are all nuclear-powered but only four carry Trident nuclear missiles.
