Recovery of lost anchors has started

Recovery efforts are under way for the four anchors, which detached from the 'Stena Spey' during Storm Babet on Oct 21, which led to a swift evacuation of the 89 crew on board the huge platform, which was rocking violently. Rescue helicopters managed to transport many workers from the platform to Shetland or other nearby platforms. Of those 45 people were then transported back to Aberdeen on Sunday. The rest of the crew remained safe on the platform. Now the recovery operations were underway for the four anchors to re-attach them before normal operation could continue. Two anchor handling vessels have arrived at the location on Oct 23 to begin anchor recovery operations. A tow line was successfully attached from a towing vessel to the rig on Oct 22. The rig remained in a secure position.

Platform went adrift and was partially evacuated

89 people were airlifted by helicopters from the 'Stena Spey' in the morning of Oct 21, 2023, in the North sea, 123 nautical miles east of Aberdeen after four of the eight moorings snapped or were lost in the storm Babet. 44 crew members remained on board, to provide the platform's safety. The rig was slowly drifting in western direction.
