Inner structures of Statengracht repaired

Wed Feb 06 16:37:37 CET 2013 Timsen

The hole of eight metres length in the port side of the "Statengracht" has now been patched so far, that the ship could be allowed to move to a repair facility. The inner structures were repaired, while the hole in the hull remained. The owner Company spliethoff is still looking for a suitable yard, so that the ship actually remains in Rostock. STATENGRACHT 9288045

Tue Feb 05 09:32:30 CET 2013 Timsen

The "Statengracht" was temporary patched by divers of the company Baltic-Taucher from Rostock on Feb 2 so that the water ingress was stopped. Before the ship may leave the overseas port of Rostock, the cellulose has to be unloaded. Most of it had withstood the accident undamaged. It was not yet clear where permanent repairs were to be carried out. Rostock has no facilities to do such work. According to investigations a navigational mistake may have caused the collision. Human error caused collision

Sat Feb 02 23:20:06 CET 2013 Timsen

Human error was thought to have been the cause of the collision of the "Katre" and the "Statengracht". The „Katre“ was heading from the Öresund to Stralsund and crossed the northern approach of the Kadet Channel, while the "Statengracht“ was coming with Wood pellets and per from Rauma and was heading towards the deep water fairway. When being about to enter the traffic Separation zone, the "Katre“ hit into the port side of the "Statengracht“ with a Speed of 10 knots. After the "Katre“ was ordered to enter Mukran port, the federal police aboard the "Bredstedt“ launched investigations. The "Statengracht“ was sent to the former dontainer terminal in Rostock. During the transit the damaged cargo hold was continuously pumped out by the crew, while the lifeboat "Harro Koepke" assisted. Once in port, divers and salvage experts supported the crew to tackle the situation.
