Sailings cancelled due to problem with ferry doors
The 'Spirit of British Columbia' suffered a mechanical breakdown on Feb 22, 2022, which forced the cancellation of two sailings between Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland. The 1 p.m. sailing from Swartz Bay to Tsawwassen, and the 3 p.m. return sailing were cancelled after the vessel experienced an issue with a hydraulic ram, which prevented the ferry doors from closing.
Unruly passenger removed from ferry for refusing to wear mask
Delta police were called to the Tsawwassen, B.C. ferry terminal on Nov 4, 2020, to remove an unruly passenger from the 'Spirit of British Columbia' who allegedly refused to wear a mask. BC Ferries implemented a mandatory mask policy in August. Delta police officers were called to the terminal around 11 a.m. for a report of a woman who refused to wear a mask and was causing a disturbance. Officers escorted the woman off the ferry and transported her from the terminal. The incident delayed a sailing of the 'Spirit of British Columbia' serving the Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay route.
Crew member tested positive for coronavirus
One crew member on the 'Spirit of British Columbia' has tested positive for COVID-19. The ship is one of the vessels that operate on the major route between Tsawwassen and Swartz Bay. The crew member interacted with seven other crew members on March 9 and 10, 2020, but they were not showing any symptoms at the time. Furthermore, it was not until several days later, during their days off, when they began to show symptoms. BC Ferries did not believe the employee was in contact with other crew or passengers.
