Cruise ship delayed due to propulsion issues
The 'Spectrum of the Seas' has been stuck in Yokohama since Nov 6, 2024, after encountering technical issues with its propulsion system. As a consequence, the ship’s return to Shanghai was delayed by two days from No 7 to Nov 9. The following voyage has been cancelled. The technical issues arose during a 7-night sailing from Shanghai to Japan. The ship remained stationary in port as of Nov 7.
Passenger fell over board
On July 31, 2023, at about 7:50 a.m. the MRCC Singapore operated by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) was notified that a passenger of the 'Spectrum of the Seas' had fallen overboard in the Singapore Strait, while the shizp was heading to Singapore. The MRCC Singapore coordinated the search and immediately issued navigational a safety broadcast to vessels in the Singapore Strait and vessels in port to keep a lookout for the missing person and report any sightings to MRCC Singapore. The vessel was berthed in Singapore to support the investigation. It departed Singapore again at around 4:30 p.m.
Medevac off Port Dickson
A 66-year-old female passenger who suffered a stroke on board the 'Spectrum of the Seas', en route from Penang to Singapore, was evacuated by the Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) in the evening of April 26, 2023. The cruise ship had transmitted a call for help on April 25 at 5 p.m. with details of the medical emergency to the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Putrajaya. The MRCC then relayed this request to the Maritime Rescue Sub Centre (MRSC) in Johor Bahru. The MMEA deployed a fast craft that was already on patrol to the cruise ship, which was sailing 3,8 nautical miles southwest of Port Dickson. The passenger, an Indonesian national, was medevaced by the fast craft to a jetty in Port Dickson, where she arrived at around 10 p.m. and was taken to Port Dickson Hospital.
