American Ship Docks in Luanda to Strengthen Military Cooperation
The US Navy SPEARHEAD ship docked early Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at the Port of Luanda, as part of a visit aimed at strengthening military cooperation between the two states and enhance security in Gulf of Guinea. Speaking at a press conference, the commander of the vessel, Matthew Flemming, said the mission is called "Africa Partnership Station" and has a crew consisting of civilian and military staff. The official said that the main objective is to strengthen cooperation and ensure that the Angolan sea and the Gulf of Guinea are free of illegal activities such as piracy and organized crime. The commander explained that, until Saturday, a series of activities will be developed and, among these, are joint training between the navies of Angola and USA, with the participation of the navy forces of Spain and the United Kingdom. The US defense attaché, Matthew Sousa said it will participate in the "Bengany Express" 12 African, nine European and two of America countries. The Angolan Navy spokesman, captain of the sea-and-war, Narciso Júnior, considered that it was testing for the interplay of the various Marine for the security of the Gulf of Guinea.
