DOF gets Statoil work for PSV Skandi Mongstad
Norwegian oil company Statoil Petroleum has awarded DOF Rederi contracts for two platform suppliers, Skandi Mongstad and Skandi Flora, in Norway. DOF informed in an Oslo Stock Exchange filing on Wednesday that the contract period for both vessels are five years firm plus 5 x 1 yearly options. The start date is early September 2017 for the Skandi Flora and October 2017 for the Skandi Mongstad, in direct continuation from the present contract. The 2008-built Skandi Mongstad has been on charter to Statoil Petroleum since its delivery. It is of VS 495 DEM design and transports oilfield products and supplies to offshore drilling, as well as production facilities. The 2009-built Skandi Flora is an Aker PSV 06 CD design PSV. Since its delivery, the vessel has been working on long term contract mainly in the North Sea. (Source: Offshore Energy Today)
Near collision in Sandnessjøen
The "Skandi Mongstad" was about to berth at the Hurtigruten quay in Sandnessjøen in the foremidday of May 6, 2013, but at the same time a cargo freighter entered the port, and the cargo ship was suddenly caught between supply vessel and the quay. The master had discovered too late that the "Skandi Mongstad" used side propellers to move to the quay and had no choice but to lie between supply vessel and the Pier with only 20 meters between the ship and the dock left. Serious consequences were avoided as the master of the "Skandi Mongstad" realized the danger and pushed the lead again. The other ship could then pass in between. The case is now being investigated, before the lawyers determine whether there has been any criminal offense. The involved parties and witnesses were questioned after the ships were berthed.
