Supply ship in collision with oil platform
218 people were evacuated within 40 minutes with helicopters from the Norwegian oil platform "Statfjord A" after the PSV "Sjøborg" with a crew of 12 on board collided with the platform on June 7, 2019, at 1.55 a.m. No oil spills have occurred and no people have been injured either on the platform or the supply vessel. The "Statfjord A" platform was not in production mode when the collision occurred at the time of the accident which happend in connection with a loading operation. The vessel hit the part of the platform that contains the lifeboats The PSV "Sjøborg" suffered damage and was heading towards Mongstad with own power in the morning to be investigated at the quay. Equinor was assessing the extent of the damage to the "Statfjord A". There were still 58 people on the platform, while the evacuates were transeffered by two SAR helicopters and a helicopter from the MRCC at Sola onto the platforms "Statfjord B", "Statfhord C" and "Gullfaks A". The "Stril Herkules" (IMO: 9404259) was deployed to undertake a damage survey at the "Statfjord A".
