Engine malfunction off Kepez
In the morning of Jan 21, 2024, the 'Balkan 1' suffered an engine malfunction south of Kepez Port in the Dardanelles while sailing from Izmir to Yeisk, Russia. Under the coordination of the Çanakkale VTS Center, the vessel moored at the Karanlık Liman anchorage, assisted by a pilot and the tug 'Türkeli' (IMO: 9816256). Grounding on Azov-Don Ship Canal
The "Balkan 1", coming from Nemrut and bound to Azov to take a cargo of coal, ran aground on Jan 31, 2019 on the Azov-Don Ship Canal. There were no obstacles to the movement of other vessels, and there was no environmental threat. After the ship was successfully refloated by a tug three hours later, it berthed in Azov the same day at 6.30 p.m.
Engine trouble in Bosphorus
The "Balkan 1", while en route from Istanbul to Yeisk, suffered a technical failure during the passage of the Bosphorus on May 14, 2018, at 3 a.m. At 4 p.m. the vessel dropped anchor at Buyukdere anchorage. The strait passage permission was cancelled until the completion of permanent repairs. On May 15 at 8 p.m. the ship moored in pos. 40° 58.84' N 028° 54.97' E off Istanbul. She sailed again on May 19 at 10.40 a.m., bound to Fatsa, Turkey, ETA May 27, 4 a.m. She arrived in Rostov on Don and docked at the coal berth no. 3 on May 2 at noon after repairs, coming from Istanbul.
