Bareboat charter of Brittany Ferries

Fri Jan 30 17:46:19 CET 2015 Timsen

The "Sirena Seaways" has been transferred to Brittany Ferries, which has chartered the ship on a five-year bareboat contract. Right now the ship is docked at Remontowa shipyard in Gdansk to get fitted with a scrubber and will then timewise replace the "Victoria Seaway", "Regina Seaways" and "Athena Seaways" while they get equipped with scrubber Technology.

Sad days for Harwich and Esbjerg with ferry service ending

Mon Sep 29 12:15:51 CEST 2014 Timsen

The Sirena Seaways" left Harwich for the last time on Sep 28, bringing to an end the verry last passenger ferry service between the UK and Scandinavia. The ship reached Esbjerg for the final time in the afternoon of Sep 29, bringing the end of an era for the Essex port which saw the first DFDS Service arrive in 1880. New EU sulphur rules being introduced in January 2015 would have meant additional costs of around £2m a year. Job losses at the port of Harwich were believed to be around 50 as a result of the service ending. Stena Line continues offering twice daily crossings between Harwich and the Hook of Holland and a twice daily freight service from Harwich to Rotterdam. The company estimated that the more expensive low sulphur fuel will cost them an extra £41 million a year. As a result freight customersweare expected to see prices go up by around 15%. The compan will continue to monitor the impact on the business. Report with photos: http://www.itv.com/news/anglia/2014-09-28/dfds-ferry-leaves-harwich-for-the-last-time/

Sirena Seaways swaps to Sweden-Estonia service

Wed Sep 17 08:59:49 CEST 2014 Timsen

The "Sirena Seaways" will sadly arrive in Esbjerg from Harwich for the very last time on Sep 29, 2014. The ferry will then swap to a new service on the Paldiski-Kapellskär route where she will replace the "Patricia Seaways" as she can offer greater cargo capacity. The "Sirena Seaways" will leave Esbjerg just a few hours after the last arrival for a trip to Frederikstad in Norway where she will load military equipment for Aalborg & Kalundborg in Denmark. After minor engine maintenance work in Kalundborg, she will head for Paldiski with the first departure to Kapellskär expected on OCt 6 at 11:55 p.m. The ship will be operated by its current deck and engine crew. The catering will be done by an Estonian catering crew, as is normal practice with all passenger ship charters. Preparations for the necessary certificates and agreements as well as practical change of equipment, signs in Swedish and Estonian, and other things were already in full swing.
