Tallink Grupp connects first two vessels to shore power at Port of Stockholm
Tallink Grupp has this week started using shore power to provide electricity for two of its vessels, Silja Serenade and Silja Symphony, while they are alongside in port to reduce the environmental impact of the vessels and to minimise air pollution in the Nordic capital cities the company’s vessels visit. Silja Symphony and Silja Serenade, sister ships operating on the Helsinki-Stockholm route, have been piloting use of the shore power connection facility since February this year and are the two first vessels to be connected to the new facility aiming to minimize the environmental impact from ships within the Baltic Sea region.
Passenger of ferry got measles
An adult got measles after sailing on the "Silja Serenade" on Feb 1 - 3, 2019, from Helsinki to Stockholm and back. The Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) was concernedd that fellow travelers on the ferry may have been exposed to the infection. Tallink Silja made contact with passengers who were on board the vessel, as far as possible. The THL urged all fellow travelers to check that they have been vaccinated against measles. The measles usually breaks out 9-11 days after a person has been infected.
SILJA SERENADE drydocks at Turku Repair Yard for 13-day major upgrade
Silja Line’s 1990-built Helsinki-Stockholm cruise ferry SILJA SERENADE drydocked at Finland’s Turku Repair Yard’s large Naantali graving dock on 12 November to begin a major 13-day upgrade programme which will result in a timeless, stylish and spacious vessel. Sister ship SILJA SYMPHONY will undergo the same work package at the same shipyard in January 2019.
