Disabled trawler towed to Sortland
The "Sevryba 1" was disabled by a fouled propeller on Mar 28, 2016. The trawler with 36 people on board suffered engine trouble off the Vesteråls bank. The Norwegian Coastguard dispatched the "Sortland" which was on patrol in the area and at 5 a.m. They headed towards the casualty and were on scene at 7.30 a.m. The trawler was adrift in hurricane force winds 45 miles west of Lofoten in wave heights which were estimated to be ten meters. The crew aboard the Coast Guard vessel had a tough job of attaching a tow.ing wire. A trawl bag was drifting in the sea right in front of the bow of the "Sortland". The trawler had lost trawl gear. A towing connection was established in the second attempt, and towage began at 9:10 a.m. with 5,5 knots towards the Hadselfjord. The lifeboat "Det Norske Veritas" was called to take over the trawler in calmer seas, and the vessel was towed to Sortland with the lifeboat "Sundt Flyer" assisting in the operation.
