Cruise ship allowed to dock in Livorno for two months
The 'Seven Seas Voyager' has berthed in the port of Livorno at dock 75 on May 29, where it will remain for two months with a crew reduced to 108 members, among them five Italians including the captain, and without passengers, following the recent government measures that have provided for the possibility that cruise ships to stop in Italian ports pending the end of the emergency phase. For the whole crew, already subject to health monitoring from the time of embarkation"without any critical issues emerging, it has been established that it will still be subjected to a buffer and will remain on board until the negative results. The last preparatory meeting took place in Livorno in the morning of May 28, coordinated by the Capitancy, with the participation of all the bodies and actors involved. The aspects relating to the safety of the maneuver and the mooring, as well as the other more technical aspects related to the landing had already been evaluated in a previous meeting. During its stay in port. the ship will be bounded and constantly monitored by the competent authorities.
Medevac off Al Shoaiba
An elderly German man has been airlifted to hospital in Saudi Arabia on May 10, 2017, after suffering a health problem while onboard the "Seven Seas Voyager" off the coast of the Red Sea, which was on its way to Safaga. The ship’s crew contacted Saudi authorities when it emerged that the man’s condition required specialist hospital treatment. He was evacuated by air by the Ministry of Interior’s General Security Aviation Command. The man was picked up from the ship when it was 35 nautical miles off Al-Shoaiba beach. Accompanied by his wife, he was transferred to an air base in Jeddah, from where he was taken to hospital. Report with photos: http://www.arabnews.com/node/1097461/saudi-arabia
Cruise ships alter routes to avoid migrant crisis in Greece
The migrant crisis in Europe is affecting some cruise line itineraries. Luxury lines Regent Seven Seas Cruises and sister company Oceania Cruises are steering clear of Lesbos, the Greek island where more than 20,000 migrants are temporarily housed in camps while awaiting transport to other countries. Hundreds more continue to arrive. Both lines will avoid Lesbos in favor of Kavala, Greece, on all itineraries this fall. Regent's Mariner and Voyager were scheduled to call at Lesbos on autumn routes, as was Oceania's Nautica. A company spokesman says the lines are continuing to monitor the situation “and will make future itinerary adjustments should the need warrant.” “Due to the situation in Lesbos, Regent Seven Seas Cruises and Oceania Cruises have altered itineraries that call on Mytilene. Seven Seas Mariner’s scheduled call on Sept. 17 will be replaced with a day at sea and Sept. 29 with a stop in Kavala, Greece. Kavala will also replace Seven Seas Voyager’s scheduled call to Mytilene on Oct. 29 and Oceania Cruises’ ship Nautica’s scheduled call on Oct. 6,” the spokesman explains. Silversea Cruises' Silver Spirit, according to a report in The New York Times, also will skip Lesbos later this month and instead call at Myrina, Greece. http://www.examiner.com/article/cruise-ships-alter-routes-to-avoid-migrant-crisis-greece
