Freighter detained after causing oil spill
On May 24, 2020, the “Seaspan Lahore” caused a fuel spill at the container terminal of Total International Algeciras (TTIA) in the port of Algeciras. The incident has been denounced before the Maritime Authority of Algeciras which has set a bail of 84,000 Euros and detained the vessel at the Isla Verde dock. The ship, which suffered a crack in the hull, must deposit this sum as a guarantee before it can leave the Port Authority facilities, where it was also waiting to carry out the pertinent repairs. The investigation of the oil spill was ongoing. The cleaning teams of Gabarras & Servicios were deployed by the Port Authority along several barges of contracted companies managed to thoroughly clean the affected area of Isla Verde. Propulsion damage at Piraeus
The 'Seaspan Lahore' suffered proplsion damage at Piraeus on June 27, 2018. The tug 'Christos XXII' was appointed for towing the vessel from Piraeus to Valletta. The towage commenced on June 29. The ship was berthed at the Parlatorio Wharf in Valletta on July 5 at 10 a.m. with a severely damaged propeller which indicated either a grounding with further damage to her underwater hull or a fouling with some floating object or wreck. Four local tugs towed the ship to a berth at the Palumbo shipyard where she was drydocked for repairs. She left the port again on Aug 2 at 9.15 a.m. bound to Gioia Tauro, Palmi, where she arrived on Aug 5 at 5.50 a.m. before proceeding further to Livorno, ETA Aug 8.
