Accusations against owner company after ship loss

Tue Dec 03 09:12:29 CET 2024 Timsen

Allegedly the 'Sea Story', which capsized with the loss of four lives and seven people still being unaccounted for as of Dec 2, was built too high for its size, and was easily controlled by the wind. making it an easy target when the sea gets rough, and wasn’t built for rough, hard seas, but for easy kite surf live-aboard in a sheltered island environment, with the owners Dive Pro Liveaboards having no idea about diving or safety standards. The family of a British couple still missing have spoken of their desperation as they were waiting for news. Jenny Cawson, 36, and her husband Tariq Sinada, 49, from Devon, were believed to be among the seven people still unaccounted for after the 'Sea Story' went down. The company has already lost the 'My Sea Legend' on Feb 22 due to a fire and explosion. Their cheap and quickly built and remodeled multistory narrow ships are not suitable for open sea, having no keel to keep them upright in wind and waves, which makes them likely to tip over. The motors aren’t strong enough, they have no anchors, the liferafts are often old and useless, the zodiacs broken. Often there are no life vests and the few that there are, are not suitable for open sea, as they have no collar. Some cabins had no life vests at all:There are no smoke detectors, no evacuation routs lit with emergency lights. Aboard on one of the company’s vessels, the furniture, sofas, tables and chairs were loose and slipped on the deck and the dining room with every wave. The beds had no railing. Several people fell out of bed at night and hurt themselves. Closets couldn’t be shut with locks and swung dangerously open all the time. The fridges on the deck couldn’t close properly, so that several times beer cans shot over the deck when the boat was rocking. The captain and crews of these boats earn very little money and depend on the jobs. The owners don’t pay well and treat them badly. As result there is a new uneducated inexperienced hardly or non-English speaking crew every other trip. Instead of paying a fair salary and training them in all aspects and teaching safety regulations.

Missing and surviving Brits named

Fri Nov 29 11:14:30 CET 2024 Timsen

Two missing Brits who are still missing after the 'Sea Story' sank, have been named as an adventure-loving engaged couple. Jenny Cawson, 36, and Tarig Sinada, 49, from Devon, who have both worked as scuba diving instructors, are feared to have drowned after Egyptian authorities said they were among seven passengers from the yacht who have still not been recovered. Miss Cawson, who works as an IT consultant and Mr Sinada, an astrophysics graduate of Imperial College, have lived together for years in Ashburton, near Newton Abbot, Devon. Mr Sinada, works for Tata Consultancy Services back in the UK but has also worked as a scuba instructor in Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines, with Miss Cawson sometimes working alongside him. Two Brits rescued from the yacht have been named as the London couple Colin Sharratt, 65 and Sally Jones, 58. They were trapped in the pitch black and cold water with just their mouths and noses above the surface. Sharratt is a former project manager from London, and Sally Jones a former consultant. The yacht had sunk 40 feet in just six minutes, with the hull still floating half a metre above the surface. The search operation was getting increasingly difficult as the conditions of diving the wreck were extremely dangerous and the vessel was still being dragged further out to sea.

Two more bodies recovered and two more survivors rescued

Thu Nov 28 18:35:32 CET 2024 Timsen

When divers searched the wreck of the 'Sea Story' on Nov 28 again, two missing Germans were recovered dead. They were said to be Susanne A. (41) from Munich and Tobias D. (38) from Berlin. A.'s husband Alexander (41) is still missing. The divers also found two more survivors. The Belgians had been able to survive in an air bubble since the sinking. The ship had set sail on Nov 24 despite the storm warning from the Egyptian weather authority on the evening with 13 Egyptian crew members and 31 holidaymakers from Germany, Great Britain, the USA, Poland, Belgium, Switzerland, Finland, China, Spain and Slovakia on a five-day diving expedition. According to reports from survivors, the "Sea Story" was hit by a large wave at night near the coral reef of Ras Satayeh. The ship capsized within four to seven minutes.
