Navy handed over seized tanker to NIMASA
The Nigerian Navy has handed over the 'Sea Eunice' to the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA). The vessel was seized by the Nigerian Nay for flouting IMO regulations by constantly switching off her AIS in violation of the IMO regulation. The tanker was arrested on Aug 11, 2022 and remained at anchor in Escravos. The vessel was received by Engr. Joshua Oyadiran, NIMASA’s District Surveyor for the Central Zone, who said that the investigations would be carried out in line with the mandate of the Agency. It remained unclear what the NIMASA will do with the seized tanker.
Tanker arrested again
Operatives of the Nigerian Navy (NN) have arrested the 'Sea Eunice', for an alleged violation of the regulations of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety (NIMASA) at Escravos Onshore in Delta State while handing over the seized vessel to the NIMASA. The vessel was arrested on Feb 15, 2023. Already on Aug 11, 2022, the FOB Escravos of the Nigerian Navy had arrested the ship while the crew was continuously and consistently engaged in switching on and off their AIS in a violation of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) regulations. Cnsequently, after the completion of the preliminary investigations, the Nigerian Navy, under the watch of the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Subair Gambo, directed the Flag Officer Commanding Central Naval Command to hand over the vessel to NIMASA through the Commander, NNS Delta.
Tanker arrested for illegal bunkering
The Nigerian Navy has arrested the "Sea Eunice" in Onne over allegation of involvement in illegal oil bunkering. A statement on Nov 8, 2016, said the arrest was carried out by operatives of the Navy deployed by NNS "Pathfinder". Preliminary investigation revealed that, while the vessel was nominated to load 400 Metric tons of automotive gas oil (AGO) it was discovered that she had about 1,000 tons of AGO onboard even as the final process for loading approval was not completed. The vessel would be handed over to relevant prosecuting agency for further action.
