Sailor died after medevac
A crew member of the "Scot Bremen" died after losing consciousness on board on May 14, 2016, at noon, short after the vessel had left the port of Terneuzen. The KNRM Breskens carried out the medical evacuation on the Westerscheldt jointly with a Belgian Caïman helicopter. The tanker was enroute from Zelzate to Brazil. On the Westerscheldt near Flushing a crew member was suddenly found unconscious. The tanker dropped anchor in Flushing as soon as possible. The Dutch Coastguard alerted the lifeboat crew of Breskens and the NH90 Caïman helicopter of the Belgian Air Force. The lifeboat "Zeemanshoop" was on the spot within 15 minutes after the alarm. Two crew members with oxygen equipment and AED were transferred to provide assistance. The man was weak and complaining of chest pain. They treated the man and give him oxygen. 15 minutes later the helicopter was on site and dropped off two medicals and material. The man was stabilized, and when he was stable enough he moved to the port side of the deck and was made ready for transport. He was hoisted into the helicopter on a stretcher. After all persons and material wer eback on board the helicopter, it headed towards the hospital in Terneuzen. Also the "Zeemanshoop" got people and equipment back from the tanker and returned to the station. Unfortunately the victim died in the hospital. The vessel was timewise anchored off Flushing for investigations before resuming the voyage to Mucuripe.
