First Eastern US-bound container ship docks in VN
The United Arab Emirates' ZAMZAM vessel moored at Cai Mep International Terminal (CMIT), in the southern province of Ba Ria - Vung Tau on Friday, becoming the first container ship to dock in Viet Nam to collect goods destined for the US East Coast. The 300-metre-long ship is operated by Ocean 3, an alliance of French container transportation and shipping company CMA-CGM , China Shipping and the United Arab Shipping Company (UASC). The 9,006-TEU-capacity vessel left China's Yantian port for CMIT and will continue its voyage to Port Kelang-El Suweis, New York and Malta, among other destinations. The deep-water CMIT is capable of receiving ships of up to 160,000DWT.
UASC charters 9,000 TEU newbuilding 'Asiatic Summer' from Asiatic Lloyd
THE United Arab Shipping Co (UASC) has chartered a 9,034-TEU newbuilding from Singapore-based non-operating owner Asiatic Lloyd. The wide beam neopanamax containerships, Asiatic Summer was recently delivered by the Hyundai Samho shipyard, and is anchored at Busan awaiting her new assignment in October, reports Alphaliner. UASC will deploy the ship on the FE-West Med AMC 1/AMX 1 service jointly operated with CSCL. This service is to be upgraded with 9,000-9,500 TEU ships replacing UASC's 6,918 TEU class units, which are in turn to be shifted to the Indian subcontinent / MEUSEC Mina service. The move comes ahead of the planned Ocean Three arrangement forged by CMA CGM, CSCL and UASC to cooperate on the FE-Europe and FE-North America trades.
