Crane fell onto tug and pushed it under water
In the Mosel lock of Trier a crane crashed onto the "Michael" (EU-No.: 04306370) during unloading of a steel bar on Nov 6, 2018, at 6 p.m. The stern of the tug was pushed under the water surface, the wheelhouse crushed, and the ship was threatened to sink. the crane driver managed to escape, no one was injured. An oil boom was laid out, and the fire rescue was alerted which atended around 8 p.m. with the fire boat "St. Barbara" and shore based forces. A special company was called from Trier and attended with the crane barge "Fritz". The crane boom could be cut off and lifted onto the shore. Slowly the tug re-emerged above water and was stabilized by cranes. Diesel fuel leak out, but could be contained. After more than six hours the crane was upright again. The river had to be barrred for passing ship traffic on Nov 7 from 1-2 a.m. during the salvage of the "Michael".
