Ferry towed to Kalymnos after mechanical failure

The 'Saonisos' suffered a mechanical failure on Nov 19 , 2024,while sailing between Lipsos and Leros. A ship of the port authority rushed to the area in order to investigate. Another ship was expected to tow it to a safe harbour. At this time, a port authority ship and a Frodex ship were on site. There are approximately 30 passengers on the ship, which was slowly towed to Kalymnos in the afternoon.

Clogged filter caused temperature rise in engine

On the afternoon of July 4, 2024,, the Port Authority of Paros was informed that the 'Saonisos' experienced an increase of the temperature in the starboard side main engine, due to the presence of sand in the suction filters, while executing the scheduled route from the port of Naxos to the port of Paros. The crew carried out cleaning procedures. and the ship safely docked at the port of Parikia. The passengers were forwarded to their destination by the ship's owning company.

Ferry suffered engine damage

The 'Saonisos', with 21 crew members, three passengers and one vehicle on board, suffered a damage to the port main engine, while sailing towards the port of Tilos, in the vicinity of pos. 36 38 46 N, 027 52 58 E, in the evening of Dec 21, 2023. The ferry returned to the port of Rhodes unassisted. The Central Port Authority of Rhodes prohibited the sailing of the ''Saonisos' until the engine was repaired and the certificate of seaworthiness from the recognized classification society that monitors the vessel was issued.
