Worker fell into bilge

Tue Feb 13 10:04:31 CET 2018 Timsen

The US Coast Guard assisted and transported an injured man aboard the anchored "ergina Luck" at the Astoria anchorage on the Columbia River, in the early morning of Feb 12, 2018. The agent of the "Ergina Luck" contacted watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Columbia River at 4:49 a.m. to report the injury of a contracted workman who had fallen into a bilge while installing a recirculation system. The man reportedly injured both his legs and back and was unable to walk. A boat crew aboard a 47-foot Motor Lifeboat, from Coast Guard Station Cape Disappointment, transported 11 members of the Clatsop County high-angle rescue team to assist a man that had been injured aboard the motor vessel Ergina Luck, and transport him to emergency medical services at the 17th Street Pier in Astoria. The Clatsop County high-angle rescue team boarded the motor vessel and immobilized the crewmember and carried him up three sets of stairs before lowering him down to the crew aboard the 47-foot MLB. The injured man was a U.S. citizen and was employed by Degesch America, based in Portland. The condition of the injured man was unknown at this time.

Docks worker dies after fall into ship's hull

Sat Jan 28 10:30:48 CET 2012 arnekiel

A worker has died after he fell into the hull of a boat while shovelling coal on Immingham Docks. The man, whose identity and age is unknown, was on the MV Excalibur, which was berthed at Humber International Terminal One, when the incident happened at about 1.30pm yesterday. It is understood he fell into the hull and then became trapped under falling coal. It is believed that his work colleagues fought to try to free him – some with bare hands – before the emergency services arrived at the scene. At the time the incident was reported to the Grimsby Telegraph, Humberside Fire and Rescue Service said the man had sustained an injury to his neck. Last night Humberside Police confirmed that he had died. More http://www.thisisgrimsby.co.uk/Docks-worker-dies-fall-ship-s-hull/story-15062397-detail/story.html
