Collision off Hong Kong
The Hong Kong flagged cargo vessel "Mui Wo", 659 dwt (IMO: 9167241), and the "Santa Maria" collided in thick fog on Feb 18, 2014, around 10.30 a.m. off Tuen Mun, west of Hong Kong. The collision happened Amid poor visibility. The Marine Department said visibility in Urmston Road off Tap Shek Kok had dropped to 370 metres. No one was injured and the two vessels suffered minor hull damage in their hulls. The ferry was carrying 82 passengers and 10 crew members from Shekou, Guangdong to Skypier at the Hong Kong International Airport on Lantau Boats from the Marine Department and Marine police were then deployed to the scene. After an inspection, the ferry was found fit to continue its journey and offloaded all the passengers at Skypier. The container ship was held at the scene to assist the investigation.
