The longest tow any Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat has carried out
The "Sanrene - GY 152" was towed back to North Shields in an overnight rescue that lasted ten hours on Apr 10, 2015. The North Shields-based fishing vessel with three crew on board, became stranded 60 miles out to sea and had to be rescued by Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat. The skipper had called the Coastguard for help on Apr 9 at 8.30 p.m. after the vessel’s nets had become wrapped round the propeller, stopping the engine. The crew on board tried to free the nets but were left with no option to radio for assistance. The Tynemouth RNLI all weather lifeboat reached the stranded vessel in two hours, with the volunteer lifeboat crew quickly attaching a tow rope to it before setting off on the slow 60-mile overnight tow back to North Shields Fish Quay. The journey took 8,5 hours, arriving at 6.30 a.m. on Apr 10. It was one of the furthest rescues any Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat has carried out, and was probably the longest tow.
