Search of wreck terminated
The Maritime Prefect confirmed that the search for four missing sailors of the "San Jorge I" which sank on Feb 25 has now ended. After all store rooms in the bow and below deck which were the last to be inspected, were searched without results, the divings were terminated. The Prefecture made 44 dives and the Navy 8 with an average of 20-25 minutes per dive. Aall areas of the ship were filmed during this process. The coastal zone remained to be monitored. Anotice was given to the Federal Court of Dolores, which was in charge of the investigation.
Body of missing crew member found
One body found on Mar 12 in the vicinity of Villa Gesell wrapped in a fishing net was identified on Mar 13 as Carlos Peña, one of the missing crew members of the "San Jorge 1". He was identified by fingerprints due to the advanced state of decomposition. The search for the four missing crew members Rogelio Hernandez, Pablo Vaccarezza, fishing captain, Alejandro Gonzalez and Maximiliano Ali was going on.
Wreck is being searched for missing crew
Divers of the Rescue Service of the Argentinian Army in conjunction with the Naval Prefecture Argentina (PNA)intensified the search for the crew of the "San Jorge I" which was resting on the sea bottom 36 meters deep 80 kilometers east of Villa Gesell. The divers arrived aboard the destroyer "Sarandi" and explored the wheelhouse and much of the cabins, kitchen and laundry, on Mar 3 with negative results. Operations were stopped late on Mar 4 due to low visibility. On Mar 5 it was planned to enter rooms which could not yet be searched because of locked doors, as the dining and living room and the engine room. The corvette "Drummond" which was deploaxed from the Naval Base Mar del Plata, was still searching for victims at the surface of the sea jointly with fishing boats from the area.
