Samskip Endeavour Goes Fossil-Free by Burning Vegetable Oil
The Samskip Endeavour, a containership that carries over 800 containers and normally runs on a combination of fossil fuels, was bunkered with hydrotreated vegetable oil as part of the Goodshipping Program, a global marine initiative that aims to change the fuel that is used in the marine market space.
Fuel pump overheated off Mounts Bay
On March 25, 2018, at 5 p.m. p.m. the "Samskip Endeavour" reported an overheated fuel pump to the Falmouth Coastguard, while enroute from Rotterdam, where it had sailed on March 24 at 7.10 p.m., to Dublin. High temperatures were measured in the gas cylinders, and the fuel pump needing replacement approximately 14,5 nautical miles south of Mounts Bay, in pos. 49 49.13N, 05 28.38W. The repairs were estimated to take four hours. At 8.38 p.m. the ship reported that the pump was exchanged and the damage fixed. The vessel berthed at the Dublin Ferryport Terminal on March 26 at 11.50 a.m.
Samskip Endeavour undamaged after grounding
The "Samskip Endeavour" was refloated on Sep 5, 2011, around 10 a.m. after the tug "Bargarth" first surveyed the area and encircled the vessel a number of times before a line was finally connected up to the stern of the ship on the starboard side. She successfully dragged the massive cargo ship into the deeper waters of the shipping lane just before 11 a.m., allowing the 'Samskip Endeavour' to continue on its journey. There was no damage caused to the ship. The Coastguard was also in attendance and dispatched their helicopter to survey the area to monitor for possible pollution arising from the incident. The vessel proceeded to Cork later and berthed at the Tivoli CT on Sep 6. Report with photo: http://www.wexfordpeople.ie/news/sos-2869598.html
