464 migrants rescued, one died
Seven cayucos were assisted in the waters of the Canary Islands on the night of Jan 22, six in the El Hierro/Tenerife area and one in Gran Canaria. The total number of survivors on board was 464, plus one deceased person, to which 57 were added from a boat that arrived unassisted at El Hierro. The 'Salvamar Adhara', 'Salvamar Alpheratz' and 'Salvamar Macondo' as well as the SAR helicopter Helimer 204 were involved in the responses. About 140 migrants arrived in Tenerife and Arguineguin
On the night of Jan 16, two canoes arrived on their own in Tenerife with 37 and 50 people on board respectively. The captains of the 'Salvamar Adhara' and 'Salvamar Acrux' notified the control center. In Las Palmas, the 'Salvamar Macondo' rescued 50 migrants aboard a canoe on the morning of Jan 16 and transferred them to Arguineguín. Boat with 63 migrants towed to Arguineguin
On Jan 9, 2025, a cayuco was spotted five nautical miles south of Gran Canaria. The 'Salvamar Macondo' was tasked to assist and took the boat in towto the port of Arguineguín, where the 63 people of sub-Saharan origin on board safely disembarked.
