Propeller damage off Peru
The 'Kwang Ja Ho', while navigating in Peruvian waters, sufferd propeller damage, during the intervening week between Jan 11 to Jan 15, 2020. The fishing vessel entered the ASMAR docking yard in Talcahuano on Jan 17 at 3 a.m.
Grounded trawler refloated
On Feb 24 at 6 p.m. the "Kwang Ho Ja" came off with own power in the Bahia Chile. Now the hull damage has to be checked and a security testing performed. Later it was planned to go alongside the reefer "Frio Athens" with the aim to lighter the catch of 817 tons of krill. The port captain and the maritime authority of the Gobernación Marítima de la Antártica Chilena, had been in steady contact with the master of the stricken ship to support the operation. Trawler aground in Antarctic waters
The "Kwang Ja Ho" ran aground 450 meters from the coast while cruising through Antarctic Waters on Feb 24, 2014. The ship had 90 crew members on board. The maritime governor for Chile's portion of Antarctica launched a rescue mission. Everyone on board was safe and that there was no risk of a fuel spill. The trawler was coming from a Peruvian port and carried 817 tons of krill. The damage to the ship is in an area that holds a tank for drinking water. Chile's Navy has contacted the ship's owners so they could start figuring out how to salvage the vessel.
